All New Animated Prince Holly Rock Video
(July 25, 2019) The official Prince video for “Holly Rock,” the second single from the critically acclaimed album Originals, is out now via YouTube, The Prince Estate, and Warner Records.
The new “Holly Rock” single, which is available today for streaming and download, is accompanied by a vibrant animated video created by London-based Electric Light Studios. The basic tracking for the song took place at Sunset Sound studios in Los Angeles at the end of April 1985 – the very same week that Prince also recorded “Kiss” for his own Parade album.
Prince originally wrote and recorded “Holly Rock” for his protege and collaborator Sheila E. in April 1985, the very same week he recorded the hit single “Kiss” for his own album, Parade. While Prince gave Sheila E.sole writing and producer credit, he actually produced the track himself and co-wrote it with Sheila, and it was included on the soundtrack for her 1985 film Krush Groove.
Although “Holly Rock” was not a hit at the time, the electrifying full six and half-minute version has become a fan favorite due to the scarcity of copies of the soundtrack. The release of Originals marks the first time that “Holly Rock” has appeared on a Prince-related album and been made available digitally.
Originals is a 15-track album featuring 14 previously unreleased recordings that illuminate the vital, behind-the-scenes role Prince played in other artists’ careers featuring his original versions of tracks such as “The Glamorous Life”, “Manic Monday”, The Time’s “Jungle Love” and “Love… Thy Will Be Done”, as well as deep cuts like Vanity 6’s “Make-Up” and Jill Jones’s “Baby, You’re A Trip”. The album also features Prince’s original 1984 version of “Nothing Compares 2 U,” released in 2018 as a standalone single.
Originals is available now from Warner Records via all download and streaming partners and physically on CD, 180 gram vinyl, and in a limited-edition Deluxe CD and 2LP Purple Vinyl set.
